About This Place

Nestled just steps from Wigan North Western Station, Wigan Central stands as a beacon for ale enthusiasts and casual pub-goers alike. This vibrant bar and pub embraces its railway heritage with a clever and inviting decor that makes you feel part of a warm, local tradition the moment you step through its doors.

Wigan Central’s true magnet lies in its extraordinary selection of ales, ciders, and craft beers. From robust Black IPAs and smooth Hoppy Beers to rare barrel-aged barleywines such as Vault City’s rich offerings, the carefully curated beer library is nothing short of impressive. Fans of real cider will delight in artisanal choices like Ascension Cider’s Dance Commander and Mothership, while those seeking variety can explore intriguing brews from local favorites like Fierce Beer’s Blood Of Nidhoggr or Little Critters’ Nutty Ambassador. The inclusion of alcohol-free beers ensures everyone is catered for with quality options.

Pairing perfectly with the drinks are the bar’s tempting food selections. Savour traditional English treats like the Happy Belly Scotch Eggs, All Aboard Cheese Board, and the uniquely indulgent Black Pudding Scotch Egg. The Local Pork Pies and light bar snacks provide just the right balance of comfort and sophistication, making them ideal accompaniments for a pint after a long day or a lively catch-up with friends.

Customers frequently praise the staff for their friendliness and knowledge, creating a welcoming atmosphere that elevates the experience beyond just a drink. As Mark Stanborough highlights, “Lovely staff, and a great selection of beers! Definitely worth a visit when in Wigan! Thanks to Jo and the wonderful staff!!” Meanwhile, Carl Preece appreciates the “terrific choice of cask ales” alongside the interesting food offerings, underscoring the authentic local charm that Wigan Central exudes.

Sporting fans and travelers also find this pub an ideal spot to unwind, with Mark Lewis calling it the “perfect place for a post-football match pint while waiting for the train.” The bar’s proximity to the station and inclusion of classic drinks like Irish Coffee and crisp cask ales make it a convenient and cozy pit stop, whether you’re arriving or departing Wigan.

Wigan Central blends a deep respect for traditional real ales with vibrant, modern craft beer culture, all served up in a friendly space steeped in railway character. It's more than just a pub — it’s a destination for those who appreciate quality drinks, thoughtful snacks, and an inviting environment that feels like a home away from home.

Station Bar is a Must visit for Cask Ale drinkers. The decor is inkeeping with it's name and railway traditions. Very clever/unusual but welcoming bar. Food snacks / light bites. Staff very obliging. Photos + videos give true picture. We'll be back soon and it's only 2mins from rail station under bridge on't left.
